Doing more with less stress

I am a get-shit-done type of person.  I don’t mind hard work.  I’m an excellent strategist.  If I have a specific goal I know how to break that goal down into actionable steps and implement them until that goal has been achieved.

It’s a useful skill set to have to achieve success.


That’s only part of the picture of having a successful life.

Taking action is a very masculine expression of energy.  It’s aggressive, it’s external, it’s…well…masculine.

Regardless of the fact that I’m a woman, my tendency is to lead with masculine, action-oriented energy.

Whether you’re woo-woo like me, or not, you are aware of the need for energetic balance.

Masculine and feminine.

Yin and yong.

Light and dark.

Giving and receiving.

When I become extreme in my action-taking practices, I tend to get stuck in my head.  I’ll work past the point of productivity.  I’ll push myself to exhaustion, feel disconnected from my body, and get used to “dealing with” being stressed and uncomfortable.

I’ll tell myself that it’s just the way it is for now.  When I achieve fill-in-the-blank, then I’ll rest.  Then I’ll take care of myself.  Then I’ll be happy.

But the thing is, when I’m taking action from a place of stress, and my life is out of whack, I’m unhappy.  I’m tired and cranky and my work suffers.

There is something to be said for making time to balance out your energy.

Masculine expression can be balanced by feminine expression.  Whether you are male or female, we all have yin-yangboth masculine and feminine energetic expressions.  Where masculine energy is about doing, feminine energy is about receiving, allowing.

I recently started working with a coach again (after a long break) because I was ready to get out of my head and back into my body.  To balance my tendency to make actionable to do lists, with my need to stay grounded and centered.  Connected and present.

I started working with my friend and colleague Jenn Lederer .  And I already feel such a shift in my energy.

I’m still working on my to do lists, but it’s from a much more grounded place.  With less stress and the ability to be at ease, even when I’m working hard.

Making the time to energy balance doesn’t have to take a lot of time. And the benefits far outweigh the effort it takes.
