I’m an actor because…

by emily on March 24, 2015

Do you remember why you decided to become an actor?

I mean that place of decision…before you realized there are 1,000 people just like you.

Before you became worn down by the biz.

Before you had your heartbroken from too much rejection.

Before you became jaded, or cynical or bitter.

Do you remember?

That side of you that just wants to play.

That piece of your self that loves playing make believe…just because.

That part of your soul that finds love, compassion and empathy by pretending to be someone else.

That part of yourself that loves creativity and collaboration with a purity so strong that it cannot be corrupted.

Remember that?

I know you do.

But sometimes you need to be reminded.

There are days when you need to step away from business and marketing and networking and schmoozing.

To get back to that place of innocence.  It’s always there, just waiting for you.

I know you decided to become an actor for a very specific reason.  Some part of you is called to pursue this industry…despite the odds, despite the conventional wisdom or the impracticality.

There is something in your soul that compels you to act.

And sometimes you need to reconnect with your soul.

When the world has beaten you down, when your heart has been broken, when you can’t remember you wanted this in the first place…because it’s fucking hard, and there are times when nothing works and you feel completely isolated and alone.  Foolish and untethered.  Broken down and defeated and lost.

But underneath that, there is a greater purpose.  A deeper drive.  One that is bigger than the sum of all your part.

Because storytelling includes magic.  It inspires, it demands recognition of self and invites change.  Entertainment is a vehicle for transformation, cloaked in the disguise of distraction.

Stories change people.  And people change the world.

Actors are part of that change, that invitation to change.

But an actor who can’t get hired, can’t make an impact.

And an actor who has forgotten why she is doing it in the first place, will run out steam before she can help others to transform.

Are you ready to get back to that place of purity?

Then I have just the video series for you.

It’s completely free, and you can get it right here.

It will give you a sneak peek into the Auditions to Offers program.

This program was created to help actors, just like you, look beyond the chase for auditions.  It will empower you to create a career that you are truly passionate about.

And the very first step to that passionate career is clarity.  When you are clear about why you want to be an and actor, and what kind of work you are most drawn toward, then you are well on your way to creating success.

For now, don’t worry about the big picture having to know all the steps.  Just take the first one.  Get clarity.

Both the links (“right here” and “Click here”) in this article are broken—they lead to your “404ed” page. :/

The glamour of having wardrobe, makeup and setting prearranged. While I get to study all walks of life to portray. Then, to top off all the glamour they give me money for bringing comedy and drama to the room. My desire is to work in films and television with A list productions. When you do what you love, it is not work at all.
