Let’s keep each other stuck!

Would you hang around with a friend or colleague who offered to help you stay stuck?

I hope not.

But there is something to be said for the often unconscious influence of the people you hang around with the most.

As an actor, or other creative-type navigating the waters of the entertainment industry, you are faced with situations that aren’t necessarily ideal.  You’ve had those nightmare auditions with jerk-face casting directors or agents who make you feel like, well, sh*t.

I once had an agent tell me, “You can obviously act, I just don’t think anyone is going to care.”

So…you called me in for this meeting because….you just wanted to insult me to my face?

Perhaps you are at a survival job working for someone who makes you crazy, stuck performing work that fails to take into account your true talents.

No matter how you slice it, the people you hang around with (both personally and professionally) have a huge impact on your life.

There are times when you just have to suck it up and deal the best you can.  But when it come to the people you get to choose to be around – choose wisely!

Here’s the thing – when you go for your dreams like you mean it, it forces the people around you to look at their own choices and habits.  When you are willing to step outside of your comfort zone, it challenges the people around you to do one of two things – step up their own game to meet you where you are, or pull you back down to their comfort zone.

Most human beings resist change being forced upon them.  And whether it is a conscious choice or an unconscious pattern repeating itself (usually the latter), most people will choose to stay where it is comfortable. And that sometimes includes trying to talk you out of your grand plans.   It’s not personal.  It’s just a reflection of their own stuff.oprah

But if you aren’t careful, you can find yourself participating in an unconscious agreement to keep yourself and your friends stuck.  Because at least you’ll be stuck together!  And no one will actually have to make any changes.

You are worth more than that.  And your grand plans are going to help a lot of other people.  We need you.

So please do everyone a favor, and seek out the company of people who inspire you.  People who believe in your dreams and will support you in going for them, especially when you’re having doubts.  Make time for the folks who have healthy daily habits like discipline and follow through, invest in their spiritual growth and a positive outlook on life.

No one can do what you can do, and we need that thing!

Friends do not let friends stay stuck.
