Sometimes the slight difference between success and failure is the willingness to put yourself out there by asking for what you want.
In the past two weeks I’ve been super busy in my business. I sat on a panel at the SAG Foundation. I was interviewed on Motivational Chat, a guest on Inside Acting Podcast (air date TBD), and I had a meeting with a lovely agent.
None of these things “just happened.” Every single one of them happened because I was willing to ask for them.
Most people, actors especially, wait for things to happen. We wait for the phone to ring with an audition. We wait to be told we are good enough. We wait to be given permission.
Eff that.
I’m of the philosophy that you can live life on your own terms. I’m all about making things happen for yourself. Who wants to wait for things to happen to you? So much depends on someone else changing.
Luckily for me I’ve never had the patience to wait for permission.
Lucky for you I’m a super generous person and I love sharing what I’ve learned through my own trial and error.
What I’ve learned is this:
Opportunities to have what you want are, more often than you might realize, within your reach. The biggest obstacle is getting over the fear of putting yourself out there.
Yes, there is an art to asking for what you want. And I’ve got a solution for that too.
One of my favorite programs is a class series I created called Stand Out From The Crowd. It’s designed to help actors do just that – stand out.
Most actors are doing the same exact marketing strategies as everyone else. Nothing could make you blend in more completely.
I want to help you shake things up, to ask for your opportunities in a powerful way that gets results. And I also want to help you leverage the most powerful tool available to actors (that most never even realize is available).
It’s the power of media coverage.
Those interviews and panels I mentioned before? That’s media coverage. Having an outlet talk about me to their audience has given me wide spread visibility, credibility and marketability. All that media coverage led me to a delightful meeting with a great agency.
None of it would’ve happened if I sat at home hoping someone would knock on my door with an opportunity.
I successfully pitched myself to each of those outlets, and asked for the agent meeting.
And I want to show you how you can do this for your acting career as well.
The best part? I’m offering not one, but two full scholarships to win Stand Out From The Crowd for free.
If you are willing to be bold, to put yourself out there, ask for what you want, and leverage the power of media coverage to bump up your acting success, enter to win this awesome program.
The scholarship contest is happening from today 7/23-8/1.
Good luck!
Have a great week. Be bold. Be willing. Put it out there.
If I can do it, anyone can.

Awesome!
Very good written post. It will be helpful to everyone who employess it, including yours truly
. Keep up the good work – looking forward to more posts.
Excellent blog Emily! Love this. I always try to tell actors, don’t be afraid to ask for something. If you don’t ask, you will not receive. Which is how I received my recommendation from Marian Seldes and Pete Lemay.
Great stuff!
Awesome awesome article! I mean it makes complete sense! Why would you just sit back and wait? I find myself stuck in this quite a lot being so new to this industry! Good read!
